Hi I am Anowara Aana Aman, Founder of MAA foundation. I am a mental health advocate and a parent of a child with ASD and ADHD. Even though I have been aware of Autism from a young age, accepting my son’s diagnosis was very challenging. It took us more than 2 years to understand and learn how to get proper help that is needed. Navigating the special education system in New York can be a challenging one. Finding the right therapists, agencies, schools, practitioners, medical services all can be very confusing, even a nightmare to some of us.

All mothers around the world are tied by a common thread. Our number one priority is the well-being of our children. Mothers are children’s advocates and often their only voice.

“Mothers for Advocacy & Awareness”, also known as “MAA”, is a non-profit organization that supports mothers with any resources that would help in their journey throughout their motherhood.

In addition to nourishing our children’s mental and physical health, it is important that we as mothers take care of our own mental well-being. MAA provides resources to mothers to improve their quality of mental health.

MAA also provides a safe zone community where mothers are encouraged to freely voice their opinions, share their struggles, frustrations & also their achievements in their motherhood without ever being judged. Through this process we hope to encourage and inspire other mothers who are in the same path.

As parents of a child with special needs we often feel stressed and anxious navigating their special education and therapy needs. As soon as we are aware of the diagnosis, we feel overwhelmed and worried about their future. We feel disconnected from the rest of the world who do not seem to understand our struggles and worries.
Things get even more challenging when we fail to seek proper guidance and resources due to cultural and language barriers. We feel confused and lost about how to advocate for our children and their rights.

Mother’s for advocacy and awareness foundation helps mothers and caregivers navigate the system and seek services that are appropriate and needed. Through this foundation we help mothers understand their children’s Individualized Educational plan and help them advocate for their children . We help south Asian mothers overcome any cultural and language barriers in understanding the services being provided and advocating for the services that are needed.

MAA foundation supports mothers every step of the way navigating through these challenges. They say It takes a village to raise a child, “let’s build the village”
